According to a website that tracks WhatsApp features, the instant messaging platform says that this will improve the performance of the device and at the same time users will be able to keep their account safer than before. According to the screenshot shared, the feature will be introduced under the name ‘Block unknown account messages’. A toggle button has been given in it, which appears to be kept off by default and users will be able to enable it through settings.

The description of this feature reads, (translated) “To protect your account and improve device performance, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume.”

The certain volume condition seems to indicate that it will block a sender only if they send more than a certain number of messages, rather than blocking all messages from an unknown account. This could be for spammers who send a large number of promotional messages on a daily basis. The report does not provide any information on whether this will also work on senders whose message requests have been accepted or not.
