New Delhi: The government presented the Wakf Amendment Bill amidst a lot of uproar in the Parliament today. While the opposition parties argued against this bill, the ruling party explained its merits. Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav opposed this bill and said that this bill has been brought as part of deliberate politics.
What is the justification for including non-Muslims?
Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav said that when there is a system of democratic election, then where did the question of appointment come from? What is the justification of including non-Muslims in the Waqf Board? You want to give power to the District Magistrate. You know that at one place, the District Magistrate did something that its effects had to be borne for generations.
This bill is to appease a few staunch supporters
Akhilesh Yadav said that the truth is that BJP is bringing this bill to appease its few staunch supporters. Not only this, Akhilesh also commented on the Lok Sabha Speaker during his speech. Amit Shah strongly protested against this. Then the Lok Sabha Speaker calmed the matter down and said that one should always keep in mind that no personal comment should be made on the internal arrangements and chair of the Parliament.
the constitution is being trampled
Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi said why this injustice is being done to Muslims? He claimed, “The Constitution is being trampled upon. You (the government) are going to make a big mistake. We will have to suffer the consequences of this for centuries.” The SP MP said, “If this law is passed, the minorities will not feel safe. It may happen that the people come out on the streets again.”
Attack on the right to faith and religion
Congress MP KC Venugopal said that this bill is an attack on the Constitution. He questioned, “A temple board was formed in Ayodhya by the order of the Supreme Court. Can a non-Hindu be its member? Then why is there talk of non-Muslim members in the Waqf Council?” Venugopal claimed that this bill is an attack on the right to faith and religion. He said, “Right now you are attacking Muslims, then you will attack Christians, after that you will attack Jains.” The Congress MP alleged that this bill has been brought for the elections of Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand, but the people of the country no longer like this kind of divisive politics. Venugopal said that this bill is also an attack on the federal structure.
