There is a stir in President Putin’s office in the Kremlin after the assassination of Russia’s nuclear chief. Meanwhile, Ukraine has accepted responsibility for the murder of the Russian nuclear chief. A Ukrainian army official said the attack was carried out by the service. Igor Kirillov died when he was hit by an explosive device while leaving his office. Kirillov, 54, was slapped with sanctions by several countries, including Britain and Canada, over his actions in Moscow’s war in Ukraine. On Monday, the Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, opened a criminal investigation into him, accusing him of directing the use of banned chemical weapons.
Ukraine said – he was the nuclear chief criminal, who was rightly targeted
An SBU official said that the agency was behind the attack. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Kirillov is a war criminal and targeting him is completely legitimate. The SBU has said it has used chemical weapons on the battlefield on more than 4,800 occasions in February 2022. In May the US State Department said in a statement that it had used ‘chloropicrin’, a poison gas first used in World War I, against Ukrainian troops. Russia has denied using any chemical weapons in Ukraine and accuses Kiev of using toxic substances in warfare. (AP)
