The first film made on Shri Krishna was released in 1918
The first film made on Shri Krishna is ‘Shri Krishna Janma’, whose screenwriter, producer and director was Dada Saheb Phalke. This film was released in 1918 and was a silent film, in which the entire story of Krishna’s birth is shown. This film is only 12 minutes long and the father of Indian films, i.e. Dada Saheb Phalke, produced the film so that people’s interest in this subject could be encouraged.
Second film made on Shri Krishna
Dadasaheb Phalke’s daughter Mandakini also worked in this film. She played the role of Krishna in this film. Apart from Mandakini, actors like Bhagirathibai, Neelkanth Mandakini Phalke, DB Dabke and Purushottam Vaidya were seen in this film. After this, glimpses of Shri Krishna’s life were also shown in another film released in 1919, named ‘Kalia Mardan’. In this film too, Mandakini played the role of Krishna.
