After the release of the Hema Committee report, on one hand there is turmoil in the Malayalam film industry, on the other hand, a senior actor has exposed Bollywood. Rajit Kapoor, who played the role of Alia Bhatt’s father ‘Hidayat Khan’ in ‘Raazi’, has made some revelations about Bollywood, which tell the truth of Bollywood. The actor has made a big revelation on the exploitation of actors in Bollywood and pay parity. According to Rajit Kapoor, supporting or side actors in the industry are forced to work for less money or without payment and even if payment is given, it is never given on time.
Rajit Kapoor exposed the secrets of Bollywood
Speaking to Unfiltered by Samdish, Rajit Kapur addressed the lack of a structured system in the industry and called it the biggest reason for the pay disparity. He said that casting agencies, which have been around for five years, haven’t made much of a difference either. Before casting agencies, the directors and assistant directors were responsible for selecting actors. They were often left in the lurch, waiting for days without any assurance of payment.
Supporting actors are made to wait for their fees
Rajit Kapur also emphasised that while actors had to wait for long periods for their salaries to be paid, there was no one to advocate for their compensation, which led to a system full of exploitation. “There is exploitation even today. Even if you are worth Rs 20,000, they will say, ‘If you want to do this, do it for Rs 10,000. Otherwise, there are so many people who are waiting for an opportunity.’ This still happens,” he says.
There was no improvement even after the arrival of casting agencies
When asked if the advent of casting agencies has brought any improvement in the industry, Rajit Kapur said that despite the display of professionalism, the situation remains largely the same. He said that while corporate employees are paid within 7 to 15 days, actors often wait for up to 90 days for their payments. He also said that if they try to stand up against a producer over this, they may lose work in the future.
Makers do not have money for supporting actors
The veteran actor also spoke about the financial disparities within the industry. According to the actor, while lead actors often receive a significant portion of a film’s budget, supporting actors are told, “We don’t have money.” He reiterated his response to such situations. “Thank you. Call me when you have the money. Don’t waste my time.”
