Current New Zealand captain Sophie Devine will step down as the T20 captain of the team after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the UAE. She took this decision to manage her workload. However, she has made it clear that she will continue to captain the ODI team.

Devine said, ‘I am very proud to have captained the team in both formats. Captaincy also comes with extra workload, which I enjoy, but sometimes it also becomes challenging. So stepping down from T20 captaincy will reduce my workload a bit and I can focus my energy on the game and preparing future leaders.’
Devine will continue to captain the ODI team
Devine said, ‘I am not ready to give up ODI captaincy yet. But I will not be the captain forever. So I think stepping down from captaincy of one format at a time will be good for the next captain.’
