Silver recovered from smuggler

In a major action, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has seized 60 kg of silver jewelery at Rourkela railway station in Odisha. According to the information, this silver was being transported illegally through a train. Police arrested a man named Chandan Kumar, who was going from Agra to Ranchi. He did not give satisfactory answers during interrogation, after which he was handed over to the GST department.

Bought 51 kg silver in Agra

Chandan Kumar told officials that he had to stay in Rourkela as he could not get a direct train to Ranchi. However, he did not give any valid answer for carrying such a large quantity of silver. GST Department Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chandra Saha said that Chandan Kumar had purchased 51 kg of silver in Agra and presented some bills for it, but many irregularities were found in these bills. Additionally, he purchased 10 kg more silver in Rourkela but did not produce any bill for the same.

Is the silver stolen or legitimate?

Saha also said that there are many flaws in the documents presented, due to which it is not clear whether the silver has been stolen or purchased legitimately. Officials also said that the entire truth of the matter will be revealed only after investigation. The GST department has seized the silver and related documents and investigation into the matter is underway. Officials say that they are trying to find out from where such a large amount of silver was brought and for what purpose it was being taken. (Report- Shubham Kumar)
