The Supreme Court on Thursday appealed to all the striking doctors to return to work soon as their absence is causing trouble to those who are in dire need of health services. A bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud assured the doctors that after they return to duty, the court will ensure that no punitive action is taken against them. At present, millions of poor patients in India are troubled due to the closure of OPD services and non-operation of surgeries in government hospitals. On Friday, the lawyer of resident doctors in the Supreme Court demanded that resident doctors be given representation in the National Task Force, but the Chief Justice said that by doing so, this task force will not be able to work properly. However, he assured that the task force will definitely listen to the demands of the doctors.

The Chief Justice said that the way doctors are working continuously for 36 or 48 hours is really inhumane, and the task force will also regulate their working hours. In my opinion, doctors should now accept the Supreme Court’s appeal and return to work. As far as the case of the rape-murder of the doctor daughter in Kolkata is concerned, the Supreme Court today heard all the parties in detail, and strongly reprimanded the state government. The court was told in detail how all the evidence at the crime scene was deliberately destroyed so that the beasts could be saved. Whenever people feel that an attempt was made to destroy evidence or save the criminals in a gruesome case like rape-murder, people’s anger increases. This is the reason for the protest of doctors in the brutal act that happened with an innocent girl in Kolkata. This is the reason for the anger among the general public of the country.

Now this matter has become even more serious because people feel that from the main accused to others in this case, everyone is not cooperating in the investigation, they are not answering the questions properly. Kolkata Police is also playing a new trick by filing several cases against the former Principal of the medical college, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. It is suspected that Kolkata Police wants to arrest Dr. Sandeep Ghosh and take him into custody, otherwise why did Dr. Ghosh, who was tried to be saved earlier, come under the police net now? Similarly, nothing much has been known about the mob that vandalized the hospital, tried to destroy evidence, as to whose people they were? Who sent them? This question also remains. Another sad thing in this whole matter is that due to the doctors’ strike, lakhs of patients are troubled across the country, especially in government hospitals, where poor patients go for treatment. I think doctors should pay attention to the Supreme Court’s appeal, return to work, they should trust the CBI investigation and believe that they will get justice from the Supreme Court.
