New Delhi: Recently, a railway employee died while coupling two coaches in Barauni, Bihar. The picture and photo video of this gruesome incident went viral on social media. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given a statement in Parliament on this incident. The Railway Minister said that this unfortunate incident happened due to communication misunderstanding between the employees in East Central Railway. He said that this incident was not related to coupling or uncoupling.

Railway Minister answered the questions of these MPs

Responding to the questions of Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi and Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien, the Railway Minister said that we all are saddened by this incident that happened in Bihar on November 9. Coupling and decoupling of trains happens without manual intervention in the more advanced LHB coaches introduced by Indian Railways in 1999-2000, the Railway Minister said on Monday. Safety campaigns are regularly conducted in the Railways, which include counseling employees to remain alert while working.

Railway Minister gave this important information

The Railway Minister said that LHB coaches are provided with center buffer couplers in which the coupling takes place without any human intervention. He said that Indian Railways has started the work of replacing ICF coaches with LHB coaches in a phased manner. The Railway Minister said 36,933 LHB coaches have been manufactured from 2014 to 2024 compared to 2,337 such coaches produced from 2004 to 2014.

Advanced semi-automatic couplers have also been developed for use in Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains, he said. These couplers also enable automatic coupling between coaches without any mutual interference and training is given to the concerned field staff at regular intervals to avoid the possibility of any unfortunate incident during coupling.
