Premier League: Manchester City slump to 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa

NEW DELHI: Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday to add more pressure on City’s manager Pep Guardiolawhose team has now lost nine of their last 12 matches.
Villa took an early lead with a goal by John DuranMorgan Rogers then extended Villa’s lead in the 65th minute.
Phil Foden scored a late goal for Manchester City.
The win propelled Aston Villa to fifth place in the league standings, surpassing City.
City now sits provisionally in sixth place and could potentially drop to ninth depending on the weekend’s remaining results.
The match began with high intensity, with Villa nearly scoring within the first 20 seconds.
In the 16th minute, Youri Tielemans delivered a precise through ball to Rogers. Rogers then unselfishly passed to Duran, who scored for Villa.
This was Duran’s third consecutive league start, and he has scored remarkably in each of those appearances.
Villa extended their lead in the 65th minute. Captain John McGinn passed to Rogers, who netted with a low, powerful shot.
City’s manager, Guardiola, expressed his frustration with the team’s performance.
Phil Foden scored a consolation goal for Manchester City during injury time, capitalizing on an error by Villa’s Lucas Digne.
