New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha brought forward the pain of the common air passenger in the discussion on the Indian Aviation Bill 2024 in the Rajya Sabha. He said that the government has forgotten the promise of providing cheap air tickets under the UDAN scheme. He said- There was a promise to let the slippers travel by plane, but what happened to that promise of the government? Now even a person wearing Bata company shoes is not able to buy plane tickets.

Government should make air travel accessible to common travelers

He mentioned the rising air fares and said that there should be some regulation to control it. Raghav Chadha said that people’s pockets are being cut in the name of air travel. He mentioned about the air fares of different sectors and that in some places, very high fares are being charged from the passengers. Flights to Maldives are cheap, but flights to Lakshadweep are expensive. He said that the government should make air travel accessible to the common traveler instead of luxury.

Tea and water are also very expensive

Raghav Chadda said that food and drinks at the airport are also very expensive. He said that one has to spend Rs 200-250 for a cup of tea. A bottle of water which is available outside in the market for Rs 20, is available at the airport for Rs 100.

Long lines at the airport

Raghav Chadha said that even with expensive tickets, there is no guarantee of travel. There is no warranty on your item even if it breaks or breaks. He described the country’s airports as worse than bus stands and said that there are such long queues that many people even miss their flights. People buy expensive tickets to reach their destination quickly but in small cities the flights are getting delayed by 3 to 4 hours.

Impact on tourism due to lack of airport connectivity at many places

The AAP MP said that there are no airports near many popular tourist spots in the country and tourism is being affected due to lack of connectivity. Raghav Chadha urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister to address these challenges faced by air passengers.
