Kiev. While the world is immersed in Christmas celebrations, Russia on Wednesday devastated Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missile attacks. Due to this, many cities of Ukraine have been plunged into darkness. Russia launches massive missile attack targeting Ukrainian power plants. This attack caused major damage to a thermal power plant in Ukraine. After the missile attack started, the local people had to run to the metro station and take shelter.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushenko said in a statement on Facebook that Russia had again launched a “massive attack on energy infrastructure.” Ukraine’s Air Force carried out several strikes on the Kharkiv, Dnipro and Poltava regions in the east of the country. There has been a warning of missiles being fired. “(Power) distribution system operators have taken measures to minimize consumption to limit the impact of damage to the power system,” Halushenko said. As soon as the security situation becomes favorable, power workers will assess the damage. Ukraine’s largest private power company, DTEK, said Russia attacked one of its thermal power plants on Wednesday morning.
Ukraine’s power grid attacked for the 13th time
According to officials, this is Russia’s 13th attack on Ukraine’s electricity grid this year. “Depriving millions of peaceful people celebrating Christmas of a heating system in the dead of winter is a deviant and diabolical act that must be responded to,” DTEK chief executive Maxim Timchenko said on ‘X.’ Regional head Oleh Sinylyubov reported on Telegram that at least seven attacks were targeted at Kharkiv, causing fires throughout the city. Local officials said at least three people were injured. (AP)
