Haridwar: Om Parvat is situated on the way to Kailash Mansarovar from Pithoragarh region of Kumaon Mandal of Uttarakhand. These days Om has disappeared from this Om Parvat. This mountain has become snowless and has turned black. Environmentalists and environmental scientists across the country are worried about this.
Urmila Sanwal Gunjyal made this claim
According to the information, OM has disappeared from the world famous Om Parvat due to melting of snow. Now only a black mountain is visible here. Environmentalists and local people are blaming the increase in global temperature and the construction work going on in the high Himalayan region for this. Urmila Sanwal Gunjyal, who recently went to her native village Gunji on a visit to Pithoragarh, revealed that she had gone to visit Om Parvat on 16th August this month. When she went to Nabhidhang to take photos, she did not see snow on Om Parvat. Om was missing, which disappointed her a lot.
Om mountain is situated in the Vyas valley of Dharchula
Om Parvat is situated at an altitude of 5,900 meters in the Vyas Valley of Dharchula Tehsil of Pithoragarh district of Kumaon division. Om Parvat can be seen from Nabhidang situated on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route. Professor BD Joshi, National President of Indian Environmental Institute Uttarakhand and former Head of Department of Environment and Zoology, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar says that if the movement of humans in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand continues to increase in this manner and the crowd of people in the mountains increases in the name of development, pilgrimage and tourism and the network of roads continues to be laid indiscriminately in the mountains and tunnels continue to be built, then one day the mountains of Uttarakhand will be devoid of glaciers forever and Om Parvat will disappear forever.
‘Om’ and snow missing from Uttarakhand’s Om mountain
Professor BD Joshi told the reason
Professor B D Joshi says that the way human movement is increasing in Uttarakhand, motor vehicles are also coming to the mountains at a fast pace and noise pollution is increasing rapidly and noise pollution is also proving to be dangerous for the mountains. Professor Joshi says that noise pollution not only melts the snow but it is also affecting the wildlife and flora living in the mountains and the breeding process of wildlife is getting disrupted.
Professor BD Joshi made this demand
He said that the helicopter service which has been started on a war footing for the four Dhams of Uttarakhand, especially for Badrinath and Kedarnath, is causing a lot of damage to the environment because air pollution and noise pollution is increasing rapidly due to these helicopter services, it has become difficult for animals to live in this area. He said that such activities should be stopped immediately and the construction of roads, tunnels and houses indiscriminately should be stopped. Professor Joshi has demanded a ban on indiscriminate construction work in the name of tourism and pilgrimage in Uttarakhand.
Tourists are increasing rapidly
Professor Joshi says that recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to visit Om Parvat and the way it was promoted at the national level, the movement of tourists in Pithoragarh region of Kumaon has suddenly increased rapidly and due to this the temperature in this area has increased. He said that climate change is happening rapidly and the heat is increasing. The cycle of seasons is changing. The disappearance of snow from Om Parvat is also a major reason. In the last season, the summer was very hot and the rains and winters were less. It has been observed that the rains are falling less and the duration of winters is continuously decreasing as compared to earlier.
