Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Indian Olympic team Dr. Dinesh Pardiwala and Athletic Federation of India President Adil Sumariwala said that Vinesh had 3 bouts in a single day on Tuesday. Between every bout, the wrestler needs to eat and drink something for energy. Due to this, the weight of Vinesh, who plays in the 50 kg weight category, increased by 2.7 kg.

Dr. Dinesh Pardiwala and Adil Sumariwala claimed that the support staff accompanying the Indian team worked with Vinesh to reduce weight overnight. However, due to only 15 minutes available at the last moment, 100 grams more weight could not be reduced.

First know what Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala said.

1. Vinesh was 2.7 kg overweight
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala said- ‘After winning the semi-final match of the 50 kg weight category on Tuesday evening, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 2.7 kg more than 50 kg. After this, the team and the coach started the normal process and started the process of sweating. Usually, in such a condition, the athlete needs some time. But unfortunately, in the case of Vinesh Phogat, the Indian team did not have much time.

2. There was 12 hours to reduce the time, the team worked all night
Pardiwala said that the team had only 12 hours to bring Vinesh’s weight back to 50 kg. The entire team worked all night to reduce Vinesh’s weight. For this, she was also kept in steam etc. Along with exercise, whatever was medically possible was done to reduce weight.

3. If you are not sweating, then cut your hair
According to Pardiwala, when Vinesh Phogat was not sweating despite exercise, the medical staff had to take some drastic steps like cutting her hair. If the support staff had got a few more hours, it would have been possible to reduce Vinesh’s weight by 100 grams but we did not have that time.

4. Vinesh is normal, her blood tests are done
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala said that Vinesh Phogat is completely normal physically and medically. The team has got her blood test done as a precaution, the report of which is yet to come. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, who went to meet Vinesh in the hospital in Paris, said that even though Vinesh is physically and medically normal, she is very disappointed. This is her third Olympics and she was disqualified just before the final.

What did Athletic Federation of India President Adil Sumariwala say?

1. Worked all night to lose weight
Athletic Federation of India president Adil Sumariwala also explained the entire incident in detail. According to him- ‘This is a very unfortunate incident. Vinesh’s weight was fine during the weigh-in yesterday. After this she fought 3 fights. During this time she ate something and drank water in between. It was necessary to do this for the energy that the wrestler needs to fight the bout.

2. You became overweight by the end of the day
Sumariwala said that by the end of the third bout and Tuesday, Vinesh had become overweight. After this he went straight to the doctor. Efforts were made to reduce Vinesh’s weight throughout the night. Vinesh also ran all night. She even had to get her hair cut.

3. We only get 15 minutes
Sumariwala said that Vinesh’s weight was checked again on Wednesday morning. After this, as per the rules, only 15 minutes were given but in such a short time Vinesh’s weight could not be reduced to 50 kg. When the weight was checked at last, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed limit. The entire team worked hard with Vinesh throughout the night.

4. Vinesh was dehydrated in the morning
Sumariwala said that due to overnight exercise, running etc., Vinesh became dehydrated on Wednesday morning. She needed immediate treatment so she had to be admitted to the polyclinic. Her condition is fine. It is not right to make this a political issue.

WFI President said- strict action should be taken against coach and support staff
After Vinesh Phogat was disqualified due to overweight before the final match, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh made a big statement. He said that I have spoken to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and United World Wrestling (UWW). I have requested them to give some relaxation to Vinesh Phogat. I don’t think Vinesh is at fault in this entire episode.

Sanjay Singh said that Vinesh was performing brilliantly in the Olympics and in such a situation, it is the responsibility of the wrestler’s coach and support staff to take care of her. There should be an investigation into how her weight increased. I urge the central government to take strict action against her coach and support staff.
