To make upma you need
Puffed rice 2 cups
Onion, 1 finely chopped
Tomato, 1 finely chopped
Green chilli, 1 finely chopped
Mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tablespoon
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Lemon juice
How to make puffed rice upma

- Wash the puffed rice in a colander and allow it to dry.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- Add chopped onions and green chillies and sauté the onions for a while.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add the drained puffed rice to the pan and mix everything together.
- Cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If desired, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice.
2 Puffed Rice Chivda
To make chivda you need
Puffed rice 2 cups
Roasted peanuts 1/2 cup
Roasted Bengal gram dal 1/4 cup
Curry leaves 1/4 cup
Green chillies 2, chopped
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tablespoon
How to make puffed rice chivda
- Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves and green chillies. Fry for a minute.
- Add roasted peanuts and roasted chana dal and stir for another minute
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add puffed rice and mix everything well.
- Cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Let it cool and store it in an airtight container.
3 Puffed Rice Peanut Bars
To make Puffed Rice Peanut Bars you need
2 cups puffed rice (murmura)
1 cup peanuts
1 cup jaggery
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon ghee
How to make puffed rice peanut bars
- Roast the peanuts in a pan until golden brown. Let them cool and remove the peel
- Heat jaggery and water in a pan, stir continuously till the jaggery melts completely.
- Add ghee to the jaggery syrup and mix well.
- Add the roasted peanuts and puffed rice to the jaggery mixture and mix until everything is mixed well.
- Pour the mixture into a greased tray and spread it evenly.
- Let it cool slightly, then cut it into bars.
- Let the bars cool completely and store them in an airtight container.
