Suicide is not just a word. Nor does it happen in one person’s life, rather the death of one person destroys the lives of many people at once. Every year, millions of people around the world decide to end their lives for various reasons. But some people are truly warriors, who are neither afraid of challenges nor defeat. Such people come back from the brink of death because many wonderful experiences of life are waiting for them. On World Suicide Prevention Day (Shalini Mishra chooses life over suicide), meet a girl who was disappointed, but did not give up.
Suicide cases are increasing rapidly all over the world
Nowadays, cases of suicide are increasing very rapidly. Even young people and children are promoting suicide by not giving importance to their lives. In such a situation, people need to be aware of their lives. There is no such problem or trouble in the world whose solution is suicide. Every problem comes with a solution, you only need to work with patience and understanding.
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, Health Shots spoke to one such courageous woman. She is the woman who has seen death very closely, but she chose life over death and showed courage to start life afresh. So let’s know her courageous story through her own words.
World Suicide Prevention Day 2023 (World suicide prevention day)
10 September is celebrated as World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide is a major public problem where people are committing suicide due to social pressure, emotional and financial problems. According to the World Health Organization, more than 7 lakh people commit suicide in a year all over the world. The main purpose of celebrating Suicide Prevention Day is to make people aware about not committing suicide. Also, this is for all of you, if someone around you is trying to commit suicide or discusses this topic with you, then help them immediately. Backing off is not a solution. If you do not help them, then you will also be equally responsible for the suicide.
Then the tension seemed bigger than life
Shalini Mishra, a resident of Boring Road, Bihar, is a mother of two children. Shalini wanted to do modeling since high school, but after her father passed away at an early age, the financial condition of the house deteriorated and she had to stop her studies midway. Shalini was an open-hearted girl and wanted to live life freely. 10 days after marriage, her BSF result came in which she was selected but her in-laws did not allow her to work. About 1 month after marriage, her husband went out and Shalini was left alone. During this time, her in-laws did many types of emotional abuse with her. 1 year after marriage, Shalini gave birth to a son but this was not Shalini’s own wish.
She went out at midnight to jump off the bridge
Shalini says that “despite all the problems, I never thought of committing suicide. But one day the atmosphere at home was very bad and something happened that made me think of committing suicide. I could not see anything else beyond this. I could see only one way out of my problems and that was death. Without telling anyone, I opened the gate of the house at 12:00 in the night and went out and stood on a bridge on the way.
I was looking down from the bridge and nothing was going on in my mind. Then I thought how easy it is, can there be anything easier in life than suicide, the answer was no! Suicide is a very easy decision that anyone can take, but moving forward in life and showing the courage to live life is very difficult.”
I chose the path of life after seeing my child
Shalini further said that “When I was standing on the bridge, my family members came to know about my leaving the house and my husband came to the bridge looking for me with my child. He was standing at a distance of about 50 meters from me and I shouted and said don’t move ahead or else I will jump down.” Hearing this, he stopped there and took my son in his hand and moved him forward and pointed towards him by nodding his head at me.”

“This moment is the most emotional moment of my life. When I looked at that little life, I realized the meaning of life. I am a woman who has created a life myself, then how can I take someone’s life, even if it is my own life. I used to be very sensitive about even the smallest things of my child. I always used to wonder what he will do next in life. At that very moment I realized my mother, did she give birth to me for this day, did she not dream this for me. Then I stepped back and ran and hugged my husband and child.”
life is beatiful
“After choosing life over suicide, I realized one thing that life is a very beautiful journey in which difficulties will come from time to time but after crossing those difficulties, the wonderful view that is seen has no comparison. That beautiful view stays with you for life. Life is just like mountains, climbing it is very difficult, but the view that is seen after reaching the top gives coolness to the eyes and peace to the mind.”
“Till date, I used to sit quietly crying after listening to people and curse my life. But after seeing death in front of me, I realized how precious my life is and what all I can do.”

When you want to win without trying
Shalini decided to change her outlook towards life. She says, “I sat down with all the family members and answered all the questions they had been asking me for the last 2 years and expressed my feelings and my wishes to them. However, it was not as difficult as I thought it would be.
People listened to me and tried to understand. Sometimes we make decisions without trying which only harms us. Yes, I am not working today but I am living my life freely. To keep myself busy, I learned sewing and opened a small boutique at home. Slowly, people around me started knowing me and today I take about 20 to 25 orders in a month.”
