San Francisco: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met MP Michael Waltz, the National Security Advisor (NSA) nominated by President-elect Donald Trump, during his visit to the US. During this, he had extensive talks with him on bilateral partnership between India and America and current global issues. Jaishankar is in America on an official visit from December 24 to December 29. This was the first highest-level in-person meeting between the Government of India and the incoming Trump administration.
Jaishankar wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ on Friday, “It was a great pleasure to meet Waltz.” Excited to work with him.” Waltz (50) will replace Jake Sullivan as National Security Advisor. Waltz, a three-time MP from Florida’s 6th Congressional District, is the Republican co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus. It is the largest country-specific ‘caucus’ in the US House of Representatives.
India-US partnership expected to become stronger
Waltz also co-led the US Parliamentary delegation to India in August last year and attended the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. He has been the sponsor of many India-friendly bills in the House of Representatives. Trump announced on November 12 that Waltz would be his national security adviser. Earlier in the day, Jaishankar said he participated in a “very productive two-day conference with the team of Indian Embassy and Indian Consuls General in Washington DC”. He wrote on ‘X’, “After the discussions, I am confident that the pace of continued strengthening of India-US partnership will accelerate. (Language)
