Bahrain: The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that Iran is rapidly increasing its reserves of uranium that can be used to make nuclear weapons. He also said that Iran has started manufacturing advanced centrifuges. Rafael Mariano Grossi’s comments came just hours after Iran announced a successful launch of a spacecraft with its highest mass ever.

What are western countries saying?

Regarding Iran’s successful space launch, Western countries allege that it has improved Tehran’s ballistic missile program. The launch of the Simorgh rocket came at a time when Iran claimed to have 60 percent of the uranium in its nuclear program. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful while officials are potentially seeking the bomb and an intercontinental ballistic missile to enable Tehran to use the weapon against distant enemies such as the US.

Tension may increase in West Asia

This move by Iran is likely to increase tension in West Asia, where Israel’s war against Hamas continues in the Gaza Strip and attacks are taking place in Lebanon even after the ceasefire. However, Iran is busy preparing the ground for possible talks with the incoming government of America’s newly elected President Donald Trump. In his first term, Trump withdrew America from Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers. (AP)
