Baba Balak Nath Temple Trust’s canteen closed

On Tuesday, samples of rot being sold as prasad at Baba Balak Nath temple in Devsidh in Hamirpur district were found to be of poor quality. The canteen was closed on Wednesday by the temple management, and it was also said that soon the goods would be brought from outside. Prasad is not worth eating

Two months ago, the Food Safety Department had sent samples of the rot being sold as Prasad at the shop of Baba Balak Nath Mandir Trust to the ‘Composite Testing Laboratory’ located at Kandaghat in Solan district for testing. These samples were found not fit for consumption. Samples of ‘Rot’ taken from a private shop also tested negative. To make ‘Rot’, wheat flour, sugar and desi ghee or vegetable oil are used. The main canteen selling prasad was being run by the temple trust since the beginning and its business was doing well. Every year around 50-75 lakh devotees visit the ancient cave temple of Baba Balak Nath. They offer ‘Rot’, sweets and other things as ‘Prasad’ to Baba Balak Nath.

Meanwhile, reports of three out of 17 samples have come from Kandaghat laboratory. Of these, two were found to be of poor quality and one had the wrong brand name written on it. On Wednesday, Jagdish Dhiman, assistant director of the Food Standards and Safety Branch, said, “Action is being taken in this regard.”
