Jay Shah is the 16th chairman of ICC. He was elected on 27 August. His tenure started from December 1.
Jai Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has taken over the post of Chairman of the International Cricket Council i.e. ICC. 36-year-old Jay Shah has become the youngest chairman of ICC, replacing New Zealand’s Greg Barclay.
ICC gave this information in a social media post. The organization wrote on Sunday – With the commencement of Jay Shah’s tenure as ICC Chairman, a new chapter of global cricket has started. Shah, in his first statement after assuming the post, said that it is our priority to promote different formats of cricket and to further accelerate women’s cricket.

Shah said- Will work to make cricket more attractive
Shah said, “I am grateful for the support and confidence of the Boards of Directors and Members in being elected to the role of ICC President. Global cricket has immense potential and I look forward to working with the ICC team and the ICC at every opportunity to take the game to new heights.” Look forward to working with member states.”
Shah said, “This is an exciting time as we prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles (LA28) Olympics and are working to make cricket more attractive to fans around the world. We will try to engage them with the game. Feel.”
Jay Shah was elected ICC chairman unopposed
The tenure of ICC Chairman Greg Barclay ended on 30 November. He was on this post since 2020. The ICC had informed on August 20 that Barkley would not seek a third term. After this, applications were invited for the new chairman. Apart from Jai, no one else had filed nomination for the post till Tuesday, August 27, the last date for filing nominations. In such a situation, elections were not held and he was elected unopposed.
Jay Shah is the youngest among the 16 chairmen of ICC.
Jai Shah turned 36 on 22 September this year. He is the youngest chairman of ICC. All the 15 chairmen appointed before him were above 55 years of age. In 2006, Percy Son of South Africa became the youngest President at the age of 56. Jai Shah is also 20 years younger than him.
Started from Ahmedabad Cricket Board, active for 15 years
Jay Shah became a member of the executive board of the Central Cricket Board, Ahmedabad in 2009. In September 2013, he became the joint secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Became a member of the Finance Committee of BCCI in 2015. Became Secretary of BCCI for the first time in 2019. After that he was again elected Secretary of ICC in 2022.
Shah became the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2021. He was re-elected ACC President in January 2024. In 2022, he was appointed Chairman of the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee of the International Cricket Council. He was also made a member of the ICCOlympic Working Group for the Olympic Games.
On being elected chairman, he said- Will give global identity to cricket
Jay Shah was elected ICC Chief on 27 August. Then he had said, “Thank you to everyone for electing me as the chairman of ICC. I will continue to work to expand cricket globally. At present, it is important to promote multiple formats of cricket. I will try to bring new technology in the game, along with I will also take events like the World Cup to the global market.”
Shah had said, “Cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics in 2028 is a big achievement. We will give it global recognition through the Olympics and will try to take it to more countries.”
4 Indians including Sharad Pawar have been chairman of ICC
Jay Shah is the 5th Indian to hold the post of ICC Chief. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar have been ICC chiefs. The ICC Chief was called President till 2015. After this it started being called Chairman.
The previous chairman was Greg Barclay, a New Zealand cricket administrator.
The tenure of the 15th ICC President ends on 30 November 2024. He was the President of New Zealand Cricket Board from 2016 to 2020. During that time the Kiwi team had reached the final of the ODI World Cup. However, in the final, England defeated them in the Super Over.
