1. Test by dissolving it in water (Test in Water)

The easiest way to check the purity of jaggery is to dissolve it in water. Take a glass of water and add some jaggery in it. Pure jaggery will easily dissolve in water and the water will remain clear. If there is adulteration in jaggery, it will not dissolve properly in water and dirt will appear in it. This is the easiest and best way to check the purity of jaggery.

2. Check the Color

The color of pure jaggery can be light brown or golden. If jaggery is adulterated then its color may be dark and texture may be sticky. You will find the smell of pure jaggery fresh whereas adulterated jaggery may smell of chemicals. This method is a bit difficult but good for testing jaggery (How to check purity of gud).

3. Check the Sound

In childhood, when we used to go to the village to buy jaggery, many times the shopkeepers used to break the jaggery into pieces with their buttkhare (a weight kept for weighing) while weighing it.
