Bed rolls provided by Indian Railways in trains have been a topic of discussion for many days. A leader had asked in Parliament how many days does it take for the blankets found in trains to be washed. In response to this, the Railway Minister had said that blankets are washed at least once in a month. After this, it was clarified by the Railways that the bedsheets and pillow covers available in trains are washed daily, but the blankets are washed once a month.
Now a video of the laundry of Anand Vihar Railway Station has also surfaced, in which it can be seen that blankets and sheets are being cleaned in the washing machine. This video is of the mechanized laundry where linen is being cleaned to provide clean and high quality bedrolls to the passengers.
17500 sets are supplied from Anand Vihar
On maintenance and cleaning of bedrolls and blankets, CPRO, Northern Railway, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said “This laundry was started in 2017-18. It is a fully mechanized laundry. Around 17500 Lenin sets are supplied to Anand Vihar Terminal. , a large part of which goes through this laundry by mechanizing the washed linen. The blankets are ironed in a steamer and spray sterilized with naphthalene steam.”
New blankets being washed in 15 days
Himanshu Shekhar told that the blankets (Lenin) used in Rajdhani train are washed once in 15 days. The blankets which were given in Indian Railways before 2010. He used to wash it once in 3 months. But the gap was reduced between 2014 and 2024. For some time now Lenin has been washed once a month. But now high quality linen is being washed once in 15 days. The sheet and pillow cover which is given in the train. It is washed after one use. Indian Railways provides more than 6 lakh blankets a day to passengers across India. In Northern Railway, 1 lakh blankets, bed rolls are given to passengers in a day. He also clarified that now the blankets will be cleaned after every round through UV rays robotic technology.
