On the issue of Bangladesh, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in Parliament that the situation in Bangladesh is still unstable. He said that according to an estimate, there are 19,000 Indian citizens in Bangladesh, including 9,000 students. He said that most of the students have returned to India in July on the advice of the Indian High Commission. He said that we are in constant touch with the Indian community in Bangladesh through diplomatic missions.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told the Parliament that apart from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, there are assistant high commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna and Sylhet. He said that we expect the Bangladesh government to provide necessary security to these diplomatic missions. Jaishankar said that we expect normal functioning when the situation there is normal. He said that in the last 24 hours, full contact has been maintained with the officials in Dhaka.

Statement about minorities too

Foreign Minister Jaishankar has said that the Indian government is also keeping an eye on the situation of minorities in Bangladesh. It is reported that various organizations and groups have taken steps to protect minorities, which is welcome. However, we will naturally remain concerned until the law and order situation is restored there. Jaishankar also said that instructions have been given to exercise utmost vigilance for security on the border. (input language)
