Blankets given to passengers during travel in Indian Railways are in the news. The Railway Minister was asked in Parliament as to how many days the blankets given to passengers are washed. In response to this, the Railway Minister had said that the blankets provided to passengers are washed at least once a month. At the same time, bedsheets and pillow covers are washed daily. After this, the Northern Railway official has given a detailed answer in this regard.

Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, Himanshu Shekhar said that the blankets (lenin) used in Rajdhani train are washed once in 15 days. The blankets which were given in Indian Railways before 2010. He used to wash it once in 3 months. But the gap was reduced between 2014 and 2024. For some time now Lenin has been washed once a month. But now high quality linen is being washed once in 15 days.

Cleaning is done by UV rays

Public Relations Officer said that cleaning is being done through UV rays in Northern Railway. The sheet and pillow cover which is given in the train. It is washed after one use. Indian Railways provides more than 6 lakh blankets a day to passengers across India. In Northern Railway, 1 lakh blankets, bed rolls are given to passengers in a day. He also clarified that now the blankets will be cleaned after every round through UV rays robotic technology.

Pilot project in Dibrugarh and Jammu Rajdhani train

Himanshu Shekhar told how now these blankets are being washed with UV rays in the pilot project. Good quality Lenin is being provided in Ranchi capital. Now Lenin was being cleaned once a month. Now it is getting cleared in 15 days. Along with this, blankets are also cleaned with naphthalene balls and air vaporization. At present, under a pilot project, Lenin is being cleaned through UV rays in Dibrugarh and Jammu Rajdhani trains.
