Jos Buttler will be the captain of the England team.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the team for the Champions Trophy and the tour of India. All-rounder Ben Stokes is not named. Batsman Joe Root has returned to the ODI team after almost a year.

The 15-member squad will be captained by Jos Buttler. The England team will tour India from 22 February to 12 January. The team will play 5 T-20 and 3 ODI matches against India in this tour. Whereas the schedule of Champions Trophy has not been announced yet.

Root is out of the team since 2023 World Cup 34-year-old Root is currently the number-1 batsman in Test. He scored 1556 runs with 6 centuries in the 2024 Test. During this period his average has been 55.57. Joe Root had scored 666 runs in 28 matches played after 2019 at an average of around 29.

Apart from this, senior batsman Joe Root was dropped from the ODI team due to poor form in the 2023 World Cup held in India. The team was eliminated from the group stage in this tournament. Root scored 276 runs in this World Cup at an average of 30.66.
