Seattle: Internet, phone, email and other communication services at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the US remained disrupted for the third consecutive day on Monday due to a cyber attack. Airport officials are busy investigating the attack and trying to restore services. Airport Aviation Managing Director Lance Little said in a press conference, “We are working day and night to restore essential services and reduce the impact on passengers.” Passengers are facing a lot of problems due to the disruption of communication services.
The officials did not say this
Little said airport officials are working closely with other federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Department of Customs and Security. Officials did not say the extent to which services were affected, but Little clarified that it has not affected the TSA’s ability to screen passengers.
This advice was issued
Some airlines, including Delta and Alaska Airlines, denied that services were affected by the cyber attack. However, the attack is reported to have affected Seattle Airport’s ‘baggage sorting system’, forcing airport officials to issue an advisory to passengers to avoid checking luggage to avoid unnecessary delays.
How much time will it take to recover?
Officials also advised passengers to leave for the airport with extra time. Passengers were asked to use the airlines’ mobile application to get ‘boarding pass’ and ‘bag tag’. Officials posted on Facebook, “Airport teams are working towards restoring all services, but it cannot be said at the moment how much time it will take.” (AP)
