Recently, the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict saying that the states have the constitutional right to make sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes. Angered by this decision, a person threatened to kill Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on social media. The police took cognizance of the matter and investigated and arrested the accused. The accused’s name is Pankaj Atulkar and he is associated with Bhim Army.

The accused who threatened was sent to jail

Bhim Army’s Madhya Pradesh unit in-charge Pankaj Atulkar was arrested from Betul on Tuesday. He is accused of threatening to kill Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on social media over the Supreme Court’s decision on reservation. Police said that 34-year-old Atulkar was produced in court, from where he was sent to jail.

What threat was given?

According to the information, Pankaj Atulkar was angry with the Supreme Court’s decision on reservation. He had posted on the social media platform Facebook that he would kill the Chief Justice of India for giving a “decision to enslave the people of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe.”

Case registered under these sections

An FIR was registered against the accused on Monday under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and the Information Technology Act after he threatened to kill the Chief Justice of India. The Supreme Court had said in its judgment that the states have the constitutional right to make sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes so that reservation can be given for the upliftment of socially and educationally more backward castes.
