The real name of Dev Anand, who earned name fame in India and abroad, was Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand. Born on 26 September 1923 in a middle class family, this actor, after struggling for two years, made a splash by entering Hindi cinema in the year 1946 with the film ‘Hum Ek Hain’. His special thing was that no one thought much before making his friend. Dev Anand, Ratan Tata’s father Naval Tata, Soli Godrej and Vijay Mallya’s father Vitthal Mallya and King Mahendra of Nepal became his friends. Whenever the veteran actor got time, he used to write letters for his fans with his own hand. The actor made this disclosure at the Berlin Film Festival.

Dev Anand worked in 116 films including ‘Vidya’, ‘Jeet’, ‘Shayar’, ‘Afsar’, ‘Do Sitaare’ and ‘Sanam’. Dev Anand was last seen in the film ‘Chargesheet’ which released in theaters 3 months before his demise. Dev Anand made a fashion statement with his scarf, mufflers, and jacket. Even today people try to copy his black coat and white shirt look. In his 65 years of film career, he attracted a lot of people’s attention with his different style.
