Abuja: Terrorists linked to al-Qaeda attacked a village in central Burkina Faso. At least 100 villagers and soldiers have died in this terrorist attack. An expert has given this information after a thorough investigation of the video related to the attack. This attack is being described as one of the deadliest attacks this year in conflict-torn Burkina Faso. Wasim Nasr, senior research fellow at the security think tank ‘Soufan Center’, said that the villagers of Barsalogho commune, 80 kilometers from the capital Ouagadougou, were helping the security forces in digging trenches being built to protect security posts and villages. According to Nasr, during this time terrorists of the Al-Qaeda-linked Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam al-Muslimeen (JNIM) group started firing in the village.

Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack by issuing a statement on Sunday (25-08-2024). The terrorist organization has also claimed to have gained ‘full control over a military post’ in Barsalogho in the city of Kaya. Kaya is a strategically important city, where there have been several encounters between security forces and terrorist organizations trying to capture Ouagadougou. Nasr said that at least 100 bodies have been counted in the videos related to the attack. In these videos, a pile of bodies is seen lying near trenches and shovels amid the sound of firing.

The government has instructed to provide medical and other humanitarian assistance to all the affected people. The authorities are committed to protecting people’s lives. ” (AP)
