Prannoy shared the information about his illness by posting on his social media handle X.
Indian team’s star badminton player HS Prannoy is currently suffering from Chikungunya, which has had a very bad effect on his body. Therefore, he has decided to withdraw from some upcoming tournaments.
Pranay shared a post on his social media handle X saying, “Unfortunately my battle with Chikungunya has taken a toll on my body, leaving me in constant pain which has prevented me from performing at my best. After discussions with my team, I have decided to withdraw from the next few tournaments to focus on my recovery. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time. I will come back stronger.”
However, Prannoy did not give any time frame for his recovery in the post nor did he name the tournaments from which he has withdrawn. World Championship 2023 bronze medalist Prannoy has been suffering from many diseases for some time. This includes chronic stomach disease and back injury.
Lost in the pre-quarterfinals of Paris Olympics
Despite not being fully fit during the Paris Games, Prannoy won both his group matches and made it to the pre-quarterfinals. Where he had to face defeat from Lakshya Sen. Lakshya defeated Prannoy 21-12 in the first game and 21-6 in the second game. This was the first time in Olympic history that Indian players came face to face in badminton.
