Recently, a picture of famous Kannada film actor Darshan, who is lodged in Bengaluru jail in the Renukaswamy murder case, went viral, in which he was seen openly smoking cigarettes and drinking tea in the jail premises. During this time, three other people were also present with him, with whom the actor was seen chatting. After the incident of Darshan being given VIP treatment inside the jail, the Home Minister has suspended 7 officials including 2 jailers. On Sunday itself, some pictures of the actor became public, in which it was seen that Darshan, who is lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail, is seen drinking tea and smoking cigarettes in an open place with his manager and some criminals serving jail sentence.

There was a stir after these pictures came out. Home Minister G Parameshwara directed DG Jail Malini Krishnamurthy to investigate the matter and report immediately. IG Jail Anand Reddy said in his preliminary report after investigating the matter that gross negligence has been committed by the jail management, ignoring the jail rules, under trial prisoners like Darshan and history sheeters serving jail sentence in other cases are being given VIP treatment in the jail.

Based on this report, Home Minister G Parameshwara, after meeting with senior jail officials, has suspended 2 jailers, 2 assistant jailers, 2 wardens and 1 assistant warden. The Home Minister has said that after the investigation is completed, the responsibility of the senior officials will also be decided, the jail superintendent will be transferred.

Actually, actor Darshan is accused of murdering a young man named Renukaswamy. Renukaswamy had tortured Darshan’s girlfriend Pavithra Gowda over the phone, which angered Darshan and his associates who killed Renukaswamy and then threw his body in a canal in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru.

In this case, 17 people including Darshan and Pavitra Gowda were arrested by the police. However, ever since Darshan has been in jail, the jail management has been accused of giving him VIP treatment. The jail management has consistently denied these allegations and has also filed an affidavit in the court opposing giving home-cooked food to Darshan. But, the pictures that have now surfaced on social media have exposed the jail administration. Renukaswamy’s father said that such pictures have reduced his trust in the government.

After Darshan’s photo came out, Shivanna Gowda said- ‘Only I can feel the pain of losing my son, I am feeling very unbearable, the government should investigate this matter thoroughly, it should be found out who gave him this facility, they should be given severe punishment, I request with folded hands that my son’s killers should not escape. I had faith in the government and the police, all the people of Karnataka supported us, the government and the police should maintain this faith and not betray us.’
