Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on a medal after being disqualified for being 100 grams overweight at the Paris Olympics, celebrated Raksha Bandhan in her native village Balali on Monday. During this, Vinesh tied a Rakhi on the wrist of her brother Harendra Phogat.

Brother Harendra Phogat gave a bundle of 500 rupee notes to Vinesh Phogat as a token of good luck. A video of this has also surfaced. In which Vinesh Phogat is seen laughing and joking while showing the rakhi tied on her brother’s hand.
In the video, Vinesh is seen laughing and saying, ‘I am about 30 years old. Earlier I used to get 10 rupees. Last year my brother gave me 500 rupees, but this time I got this (showing a bundle of 500 rupee notes). My brother has earned only this much in his life, which has come in my share.’
Missed out on medal after being disqualified
Let us tell you that this time Vinesh Phogat participated in 50KG freestyle wrestling in the Paris Olympics. On August 6, she entered the finals by playing three matches in a single day and won the silver medal. Vinesh’s match for the gold medal was to be held on the night of August 7.
But Vinesh was disqualified the same morning as her weight was 100 grams more than the 50KG category before the match. After which Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling.
Vinesh received a grand welcome on her return to India
Vinesh returned to India from Paris two days ago. To welcome Vinesh, a 125 km long road show was organised from New Delhi Airport to her village Balali, in which she was welcomed at more than 100 places.
At many places, she was garlanded with currency notes. On reaching Balali village at night, she was given a grand welcome in which Vinesh Phogat was showered with gifts as a mark of respect. Someone presented her with a gold medal, while someone honoured her by garlanding her with currency notes. Seeing the grand welcome, Vinesh’s eyes filled with tears.
