A horrific video of the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala has surfaced. Hundreds of people died in this accident, while 119 people are still missing. It can be seen in the CCTV video that the water came so fast that no one had a chance to escape. Since it was night time, everyone was sleeping and the fast moving water along with the debris put everyone to sleep. Wayanad has still not recovered from the shock of the devastating landslide, in such a situation, the CCTV footage that surfaced on Sunday has again refreshed the horrific memories of this terrible disaster in the minds of the people of Wayanad.

In the footage, floodwater can be seen entering closed shops and in a flash, the water swept away shutters and walls. The scenes captured in CCTV cameras installed in some shops in Churlamala, which was completely devastated in this disaster, are terrifying. In one footage, it can be seen that floodwater is entering the shop and the walls are collapsing along with the falling of big stones. In another footage, it can be seen that animals also came towards the shop after being swept away by the floodwater.

Special school for children

The State government is engaged in relief and rehabilitation work in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad to bring life back on track. The district administration here on Sunday said 119 people are missing since the tragedy but the list is not final. The General Education Department has informed that 614 students of government schools destroyed in the landslide at Vellaramala and Mundakkai will be taught at a special facility set up at the Meppadi Higher Secondary School and the Panchayat Hall at Meppadi village.

36 children died in landslide

General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Saturday said additional facilities were being used for 552 students of Vellaramala school and 62 students of Mundakkai school. For this, additional classrooms, laboratories and staff rooms would be constructed there. He said steps were also taken to provide uniforms and books to the children. The minister said that according to initial figures, 36 children lost their lives and 17 went missing during the landslide in the area.

About 72 lakh rupees assistance to 12 people

The district administration said on Saturday that the Kerala government is providing financial assistance to the people affected by the landslide in Mundakkai and Choorlamala areas and assistance of about Rs 72 lakh was given to 12 people from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Chief Minister Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF). Apart from this, the administration said that 617 people who lost their livelihood in the disaster that struck on July 30 have been given ten thousand rupees each as immediate financial assistance. More than 200 people lost their lives in the landslide incidents in Wayanad, Kerala. He said that the government has also approved to provide assistance of ten thousand rupees each to 124 people for the last rites. (Input- PTI language)
