Dr. P. Venkat Krishnan, Senior Physician at Artemis Hospital Gurugram, explains that cold intolerance is a condition when the body becomes more sensitive to cold temperatures. People who have chronic health problems or have low body fat are especially at risk of catching cold. 1. Lack of blood

Anemia i.e. lack of healthy red blood cells in the body proves to be the cause of feeling cold. Heavy bleeding during periods, lack of nutrition and inability to make RBCs increase blood loss. Feeling cold is one of the early symptoms of anemia. Unhealthy meals, bowel disease, anemia or pregnancy can cause anemia. In such a situation, the person has to face symptoms like unnecessary fatigue, weakness, cold hands and feet.

2. Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is another main cause of cold intolerance. Hypothyroidism is a condition when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone for the body to function properly. Apart from weight gain, the problem of feeling cold persists.

3. Diabetes

Diabetes is a lifestyle disorder which is increasing rapidly. Its effect is visible on the kidneys. This condition is called diabetic nephropathy. Due to this, the problem of nerve damage persists and one has to face the problem of cold. Apart from this, there is swelling on hands, feet and face due to cold.

4 Vitamin B12 deficiency

People who are vegetarian are found to be deficient in Vitamin B12. It usually affects people who are over 50 or have had gastrointestinal surgery. Apart from feeling cold, such people have to face constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, difficulty in breathing and loss of appetite.

5. Narrowing of blood vessels

Due to blood vessel disorder, the soles of hands and feet remain cold. Actually, due to narrowing of blood vessels of hands and feet, blood supply is not possible properly. Due to this there remains a risk of blood clot. Apart from this, blood vessels become narrowed.

6. Lack of sleep

This increases hormonal imbalance, due to which changes in body temperature start appearing. Due to this, hands and feet feel very cold and blood circulation in the body is not regular.

1. Include seeds and nuts in the diet

To protect the body from cold, take healthy meals and increase the calorie intake. For this, include healthy fats in the diet, so that the body can get energy. Include moist fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts in your diet. To overcome anemia deficiency, take adequate amount of iron.

2. Exercise

By exercising for some time, blood circulation in the body starts increasing. This keeps the body healthy and active throughout the day. Besides, the problem of cold can also be avoided. Also take a walk daily to maintain body temperature.

3. Try to keep the body warm

Apart from layers of warm clothes, also wear socks and topper. This maintains warmth in the body and reduces chills. You can also take help of room heaters. Due to this the body temperature remains proper.

4. Get regular checkups done

Be sure to consult a doctor for changes in the body. Also, try to keep your body healthy by taking the medicine prescribed by them. Go for checkup from time to time, so that problems like anemia and thyroid can be removed.
