Tehran, Iran): An Iranian fighter plane crashed in the southern part of the country on Wednesday, killing two pilots. There is no explanation yet as to whether it was actually a victim of an accident or whether it was shot down by some country. Iran’s government media has currently shared information about the death of 2 pilots in the accident. State television identified the pilots as Colonel Hamid Raza Ranjbar and Colonel Manouchehr Pirzadeh.
According to reports in Iranian media, the pilots were on a test flight after the plane was repaired. The accident occurred near the city of Firozabad, about 770 kilometers south of the capital Tehran. The report did not go into detail about the type of aircraft or the cause of the crash. Iran’s air force has several US-made military aircraft purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Tomcat F-14 is a US-made aircraft, Iran also has Russian-made MiG and Sukhoi aircraft. Due to decades of Western sanctions, the country is finding it difficult to obtain spare parts and maintain old aircraft. (AP)
