What did Mohan Bhagwat say?
Mohan Bhagwat had said that population control is discussed from time to time. Expressing concern over the decline in population growth, he had said that India’s total fertility rate (TFR) should be at least three instead of the current 2.1. TFR refers to the average number of children a woman gives birth to.
Mohan Bhagwat, speaking at the ‘Kathaale Kulsammelan’ in Nagpur, also highlighted the important role of families and cautioned that according to population science, if the total fertility rate of a society goes below 2.1, it may be on the verge of extinction. . He said, “Population decline is a matter of serious concern. Demographic studies show that when a society’s total fertility rate falls below 2.1, it is at risk of extinction. This decline is not necessarily due to external threats; A society can gradually become extinct on its own.” Bhagwat said, ”Many languages and cultures have already become extinct due to this issue. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the fertility rate above 2.1.” (Input: Language)
