Sri Lanka took a 1-0 lead in the 3 ODI series against India. The team won the second ODI by 32 runs, the first match was a tie. Now even after winning the third match, India will not be able to win the series. In this way, Sri Lanka stopped India from winning the ODI series after 27 years. The last time this happened was in 1997, when India could not defeat Sri Lanka in the ODI series.
Rohit Sharma was seen bowling in the match, while Shreyas Iyer hit a direct hit to the boundary. Kusal Mendis and Virat Kohli were saved from getting out due to taking DRS.

1. Wrong decision by umpire, Mendis saved in DRS
In the 12th over, Kusal Mendis faced a wrong decision. The third ball of the over was bowled by Akshar Patel on a good length outside the off stump. The ball went into the wicketkeeper’s hands, India appealed for caught behind and the umpire gave the decision of out.
Mendis took a review, the replay showed that the ball was far away from Mendis’s bat. The umpire reversed the decision and Mendis was declared not out. Mendis was on 10 runs when he was given a lifeline, he went on to play an innings of 30 runs.
After the umpire’s decision, Kusal Mendis remained not out due to taking DRS.
2. Rohit Sharma bowled
Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen bowling off-spin in the first innings. He bowled again after the ODI World Cup. He bowled against Netherlands in the World Cup. He gave 11 runs in 2 overs against Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma did not take any wicket in the second ODI.
3. Kamindu run out from Shreyas’ direct hit
In the 50th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Shreyas Iyer hit a brilliant direct hit. Kamindu Mendis was run out due to this hit. Kamindu ran to take 2 runs by pushing the ball towards mid-wicket against Arshdeep Singh.
Shreyas, standing at the mid-wicket boundary, did excellent fielding and sent Mendis to the pavilion with a direct hit. Mendis scored 40 runs. On the last ball of the same over, Virat Kohli ran out Akila Dhananjaya.

4. Kamindu Mendis’s brilliant diving catch
Kamindu Mendis took a brilliant diving catch of Kamindu Mendis at first slip. Jeffrey Vandersay bowled leg spin on the first ball of the 18th over. Shubhman went to drive, but the ball went to first slip. Here Mendis dived to his right and took a brilliant catch with one hand. Shubhman scored 35 runs.

5. Virat Kohli survived in DRS
In the 15th over, Virat Kohli was saved from being out due to DRS. On the last ball of the over, Akila Dhananjaya bowled a googly on good length. The ball hit Virat’s pads, Sri Lanka appealed and the umpire gave the decision of LBW.
Virat took a review, the replay showed that the ball had hit Virat’s bat and then his pads. The umpire reversed his decision and Virat remained not out on a score of 11 runs.
Virat Kohli was saved from being LBW by taking the review.
6. Arshdeep got run out, Sri Lanka won
Arshdeep Singh was run out on the second ball of the 43rd over due to poor running. With his wicket, India was reduced to a score of 208 runs. With this, Sri Lanka won the match by 32 runs and defeated India in an ODI after 3 years. The team’s last victory was in July 2021.

Rohit Sharma became India’s fourth top run scorer in ODIs as soon as he scored 2 runs against Sri Lanka. He left behind Rahul Dravid, who has 10768 runs. Rohit now has 10831 runs. Sachin Tendulkar is at number one with 18426 runs. Virat Kohli is at number two in this record.
2. Vandersay took 6 wickets
Sri Lankan leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay took 6 wickets for just 33 runs. He became the fifth Sri Lankan player to take 6 or more wickets against India. Before him, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Akila Dhananjaya have done this. Muralitharan had taken 7 wickets in 2000.
This was also Jeffrey Vandersay’s best bowling in ODIs, before this he took 4 wickets against Zimbabwe in 2022. The 34-year-old leg spinner played an ODI against India for only the second time in his career.
