Weather becomes pleasant in Delhi-NCR

On Wednesday evening, Delhi witnessed heavy rains after the humid heat. After this, the weather of Delhi NCR became pleasant. In this sequence, the day started with rain in Delhi on 2 June. Actually, since the night of 2 June, Delhi-NCR is witnessing intermittent rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding heavy rains. Let us tell you that the highest rainfall of 119 mm has been recorded in Mayur Vihar. There was heavy rain in Delhi within just half an hour. Let us tell you that due to heavy rains, waterlogging has been seen once again in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. According to the information, such intermittent rains will be seen in Delhi-NCR in the coming few days.

There will be good rain in the country

India Meteorological Department (IMD) chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Thursday said the department had forecast significant rainfall activity over the country’s western coastal region on a regular basis and had issued a red alert for Kerala on the morning of July 30. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the Kerala government did not pay heed to the Centre’s warning about a potential natural disaster in Wayanad due to heavy rains. Over 150 people were killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Wayanad district on Tuesday morning (July 30). Responding to Shah’s claim, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the IMD had only issued an orange alert in the district before the landslide.

There will be heavy rain

He said the district received over 572 mm of rainfall, much more than what was predicted by the IMD. The IMD chief said during an online press conference that the weather department had issued a detailed forecast for fairly widespread rainfall activity over the western coastal region of India on July 18 and July 25. “The long-range forecast issued on July 25 indicated fairly widespread rainfall activity over the western coastal region and central parts of the country from July 25 to August 1. We had issued a yellow alert on July 25, which continued till July 29, when we issued an orange alert. A red alert was issued on the morning of July 30, indicating that very heavy rainfall up to 20 cm is expected,” Mohapatra said.

What did the IMD chief say?

The IMD chief said an orange alert means “be prepared for action and one should not wait for a red alert”. He said similar warnings were issued for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Three people were killed and about 40 went missing after two separate cloudburst incidents in Himachal Pradesh. The rains swept away several houses and roads and damaged two hydropower projects here. Mohapatra said it was difficult to ascertain whether a cloudburst occurred in Himachal Pradesh or not. “For example, Delhi also received heavy rainfall in a very short span of time (on Wednesday night). We call it extremely intense rainfall,” he said. “The reason for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is the shifting of the monsoon line northwards (from south of its normal position),” he said. Mohapatra said an orange alert was issued for Delhi for two days.
