Now if a person has an accident on the road, the government is bringing a scheme for him, under which the treatment of the injured person will be cashless. This information has been given by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari himself in the Lok Sabha on behalf of the government. The Union Minister said that this scheme has been implemented in Chandigarh and Assam on a pilot basis.

Help up to Rs 1.5 lakh

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that under the scheme, eligible victims are provided health benefit packages covering trauma and polytrauma care up to Rs 1.5 lakh for a maximum period of 7 days from the date of accident in a hospital empanelled under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPM-JAY).

The Road Transport and Highways Minister said, “The Ministry, in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA), has prepared a scheme to provide cashless treatment to the victims of road accidents caused by the use of vehicles on any category of road and has also started it on a pilot basis in Chandigarh and Assam.” According to Nitin Gadkari, the ministry has prepared a plan and has started it on a pilot basis in Chandigarh and Assam, which is being administered under the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund constituted under Section 164B of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

They were given the responsibility for implementation

He said that information regarding the source of income and its use has been provided under the Central Motor Vehicles (Motor Vehicle Accident Fund) Rules, 2022. The NHA under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is responsible for the implementation of the program in coordination with the local police, listed hospitals, State Health Agency, National Informatics Centre and General Insurance Council.

The Minister said that the pilot project launched in Chandigarh and Assam for cashless treatment to victims of road accidents caused by use of motor vehicles, provides assistance irrespective of the place of occurrence of road accidents, in keeping with the mandate under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
