New Delhi: The new Parliament building was constructed at a cost of 1200 crores. It has not been even a year since work started in this new Parliament but after a few hours of rain, news of leakage and water dripping from the roof started coming in. The country with the fifth largest economy in the world had to resort to buckets. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has now issued a statement on this incident. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has termed the news of the Parliament building’s roof leaking as baseless and said that there is no roof leaking, nor is there any waterlogging in the Parliament building.

When questions were raised, the Lok Sabha Secretariat gave the answer

The Lok Sabha Secretariat said that due to excessive rain on Wednesday, the adhesive used to fix the glass domes over the lobby of the building peeled off slightly, causing minor water leakage in the lobby. However, the problem was detected timely and necessary measures were taken immediately. No further water leakage was observed after this. Similarly, the water accumulated in front of Makar Dwar was also quickly drained out by the drainage system.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a statement on the whole matter and said, “Media reports have been published that due to heavy rains in Delhi on Wednesday, water leaked in the lobby of the new Parliament building, which has raised doubts about the soundness of the building. Media reports have also observed that waterlogging was observed around the premises, especially near the Makar Dwar of the new Parliament, several videos of waterlogging are going viral on social media platforms.

Why did the water leak?

The statement further said, “In line with the concept of Green Parliament, glass domes have been installed in various parts of the building, including the lobby, to utilize abundant natural light in the daily functioning of the Parliament. During heavy rains on Wednesday, the adhesive used to fix the glass domes over the lobby of the building peeled off slightly, leading to minor water leakage in the lobby. However, the problem was detected timely and necessary measures were taken immediately. No further water leakage was observed thereafter. Similarly, the water accumulated in front of Makar Dwar was also quickly drained out through the drainage system.”

‘Water dripping program is going on in Parliament’

Earlier, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the government over this and said that the old parliament was better than this new parliament, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Why not go back to the old parliament, at least till the time the water dripping program is going on in the parliament built with billions of rupees.

Congress also raised the question

On the other hand, the Congress party has also shared a video on social media of water dripping from the roof of the new Parliament building due to rain. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari has said that he will raise the issue of waterlogging and water dripping from the roof in the Rajya Sabha.
